John Surowiecki is the inaugural recipient of the Verse Drama Prize of $10,000, honoring a living poet who has written a previously unpublished, outstanding original verse drama in English. I saw the play performed at the AWP conference in New York early this spring, and it was great.
John is smart and funny and humane. He pulls off that most difficult role: he's a writer who has something important to say about the way we live and die who is not afraid of being human.
The play was totally engaging.
